Download Syllabus

This course investigates the foundations and philosophical applications of decision theory and game theory. Topics such as decisions under ignorance and risk, subjective and objective probability, social choice theory, games such as the prisoner’s dilemma, and others are explored. We examine questions like, Is it always rational to maximize expected utility? How might the strategies of other agents affect my expectations? and How does cooperation effect group dynamics? Prior exposure to philosophic or critical reasoning recommended but not required.
