Introduction to Ethics

Download Syllabus

How ought we to live? In this course, we’ll investigate four canonical traditions in philosophical ethics accompanied by supporting authors and countering viewpoints: Aristotle’s virtue ethics, Kant’s deontology, Utilitarianism, and Rawls’s justice as fairness. Then we’ll examine contemporary issues of social and environmental justice from the point of view of each theory and consider courses of action that each prescribes.
